About Me(g)

IMG_5062 sideways.jpg

Hey there! My name is Megan but feel free to call me Meg! I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and Licensed Chemical Dependency Professional (LCDP). I attended Rhode Island College and obtained my B.A. in Psychology, B.S. in Chemical Dependency/Addiction Studies, and M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I have spent most of my career at a substance use agency helping adults explore how to successfully maintain recovery, which, oftentimes, stems from unaddressed mental health concerns like anxiety.

At the root of most mental health concerns are inaccurate thoughts. Thoughts that we have on a nearly daily basis that simply are unfounded. We often focus on the negative, assume the worst, take things personally, believe we know what other people are thinking, and much more. But we all do this! The concern is when these thoughts occur more frequently than they used to; when we truly start to believe them; and when they have a significant negative impact on our mood and our behaviors.

I am passionate about helping others recognize the power of this inner dialogue--of the conversations that seem to happen without our knowledge. I believe that in order to make the change we desire, it is vital to stop and reflect upon this dialogue--to bring our awareness to its existence, to determine its negative impact, and to literally change the way we speak to ourselves so that our language supports our values.

Counseling is a great space to slow down and engage in this process. I currently work with adults who are striving to improve their anxiety, self-esteem, communication skills, substance use, life transitions, stress, and much more. I appreciate you taking the time to learn a bit about me and my approach to counseling. I hope to hear from you soon and learn about you!

Magnolias

The Message Behind The Magnolia:

Magnolia plants have been in existence for thousands of years. They evolved with their ever changing surroundings and they not only survived but they thrived. It is for this reason that the magnolia represents endurance and stability.

Most conditions in our lives are not permanent and this often scares us. Unfortunately, this fear usually impacts how we live our lives. We can maintain our current fearful state and wither away or we can take note from the magnolia and figure out what IS in our power to change and to never stop flourishing!
